"Tim Holtz Holiday Festival"
This weekend my mother and I took one class with Tim Holtz. I say one, because he offered two days of classes but they booked up so fast we only got in on the very last class he was having.
The Stamp Art Shoppe hosted two days of fun and they did a great job of making everyone feel welcome. The owner offered everyone homemade Snickerdoodles, ice cream and water as we were crafting. Just a great bunch of people, thank you for having us. Our drive to Roseville was about 2 1/2 hours, so we traveled a good distance to see Tim and take the class, but it was worth it!
If you have never taken a class with Tim let me tell you he is wonderful. Tim is very down to earth, keeps everyone focused on the project, all the while cracking jokes. If you are a beginner to expert, Tim keeps each person comfortable and working at a good speed. It truly is amazing how we all complete the project at the same time, he is that good at what he does.
Now onto some photos here is Tim and me.
Next a photo of me and my mom.
Here is a photo of Tim and an altered paper done using "Masks". If you are not familiar with Masks they are similar to stencils. The difference is these have a sticky back but not so sticky that your paper will rip when lifting it off. These are very affordable considering you use them over and over. The down side is the Masks are large, he did offer smaller ones before and I am sure they are still available if you look. I really enjoyed using the Masks, my projects are not normally 12x12. But to create a paper with Masks, stamps and inks could be fun and the paper looks great.
Here is my mom working on the project and putting snow on her canvas. This snow was created using Glossy Accents and Embossing Powder, I believe equal parts. Mix, mix and mix till it all blends together, dont add more Glossy Accents it will become incorporate just give it a few seconds. The texture will be like cookie dough. Once mixed you have a short window to get the snow on your project, but it takes at least a day to dry. Wear gloves as it is very messy and Tim says if you dont wear gloves you will have the snow on your hands for weeks!
Tip from Tim, using tan embossing powder you can make sand. I think you might have to mix another color or some gold, trial and error. Keep in mind since this is Glossy Accents you can embedded objects into the mixture and it will dry stuck into the mix! Wonderful.
Finally a photo of our completed projects. Mine is the green one and my moms is the blue one. Isnt it funny you can get the same items in your packet but the end product can look so different.
You can see in the photo of the blue canvas background the Mask was a flourish. Also used on this project was acrylic paints, stickles glitter glue, papers, beeswax, leafed some numbers, bells, beads and of course the snow. My mom is going to add tags to the bottom with her grandchildrens names.
This project has inspired my mom and myself to work on another canvas. This was my first time using beeswax and I plan on doing a tutorial on this for those of you that have not used it yet and may be intimidated. Dont be, just get some practice in before you start your final project and remember less is more when it comes to beeswax!
Give me a couple more days and I will put a "Tim Holtz" giveaway together.
Be creative today,
Ramona
